NHRC seized with case related to asbestos related diseases

 National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi heard the matter of asbestos related diseases filed by ToxicsWatch Alliance (TWA) and issued the following decision in the Case Number: 2951/30/0/2011:

"The Commission while considering the matter on 31st December, 2012, inter alia, observed and directed as under:- "Ms. Mukta Dutta, Advocate appeared on behalf of the Asbestos Cement Products Manufacturers' Association and sought time to file statement on behalf of the parties. The Association shall file the statement within eight weeks."

"Issue reminder to the following to send the requisite report sought for by the Commission within eight weeks:- (i) Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, New Delhi; (ii) Director, National Institute of Occupational Health (ICMR), Ahmedabad, Gujarat; and, (iii) Director, Tata memorial Centre, Navi Mumbai." The requisite reports have not been received from (i) Director, National Institute of Occupational Health (ICMR), Ahmedabad, Gujarat, (ii) Tata Memorial Centre, Navi Mumbai and (iii) Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi. Therefore, Registry to issue reminder to the above-mentioned for a report within eight weeks."

The matter was scheduled to be heard again by NHRC on July 15, 2013.
