Symposium on Pathways to Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Delhi

A symposium titled “Pathways to Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Delhi” on 16th March 2013 at Vishwa Yuva Kendra, Chankyapuri, New Delhi. The symposium was jointly organised by Lokadhikar, Centre for Studies in Science Policy (JNU), STEPS Centre (University of Sussex) and Vidhi Asra Motion Picture Pvt. Ltd. 

After making his presentation at the Symposium, Gopal Krishna of Toxic Watch Alliance (TWA) submitted a petition to Justice P. Jyothimani, Judicial Member, National Green Tribunal on the issue of public health crisis due to Okhla's waste to energy plant based on unapproved Chinese incinerator/boiler technology. Krishna underlined that all eyes are on National Green Tribunal whose order on Okhla waste to energy plant will pave or ruin the way waste management is done in the country.

The symposium was anchored by Shagufta Yasmin and Pravin Kushwaha of JNU. It was attended by waste recycling workers and their associations besides various social organisations.
