Govts agree on negotiating text for new UN climate treaty

The draft text for negotiating a new UN treaty on climate change was agreed upon in Geneva after seven days of negotiations by 194 nations.The negotiating text will be used for the 2015 agreement to be reached in Paris at the end of 2015 and is expected to come into effect in 2020.  

This is a follow up of the Lima Climate Change Conference held in Peru in 2014.  The negotiating text covers mitigation, adaptation, finance, technology and capacity-building. The negotiating text can be accessed at UNFCCC’s website.

The negotiations on the text will commence at the Climate Change Conference in Bonn in June, 2015 with two further formal sessions planned for later in the year including in October, 2015.
